blake shelton tickets!

today i surprised travis with blake shelton tickets!  oh yeah.  on october 4th we're heading to the bok center to watch this guy.  i. can't. wait.

we don't really go to concerts a lot, even though we both really love music, but when i first heard he was coming to tulsa, i decided i was going to surprise travis with tickets.  he's always great about buying me fun gifts and taking us on fun excursions.

the tickets went on sale at 10:00 this morning, and i kept refreshing my screen every minute for ten minutes leading up to 10.  when the link changed from tickets: coming soon to tickets: on sale, i clicked on it and NOTHING. HAPPENED.  nothing!

now blake is a popular guy, but i was hoping and praying the tickets wouldn't sell out before i could get my hands on two decent tickets.

turns out i just needed to keep refreshing.  i was able to snag two tickets for us in a pretty decent section.

and now we wait until october.

haley's new playlist.

when haley first moved in she told me that her dad used to make playlists for her.  he wanted her to know that she was beautiful and wanted her to have great self-esteem.  i know it's not the same coming from me, but i believe in the same thing -- i think every girl should know her worth.  today i pulled together a list of songs for her so she could create another play list.

who says - selena gomez
what makes you beautiful - one direction
just the way you are - bruno mars
beautiful - christina aguilera
hey you - miranda cosgrove
pefect - pink
beautiful soul - jesse mccartney
who you are - jessie j
pretty girl rock - keri hilson
firework - katy perry

i included one direction, so whether or not she likes the playlist, i should get some points. ;)

i also included a quote {i couldn't find the original author, so if you know it please let me know, as i would like to give them credit}.

"it can be really, really hard to feel good about yourself.  when you feel hopeless, and lost, and broken, it's even more difficult - but know that's what makes you who you are."
travis and i continually try to remind haley that we are proud of her; that we love her; that she is a member of our family; and that she is beautiful.  sometimes she doesn't get excited about an accomplishment until after we have told her it was a job well done, so i wrote her this letter the other day.
dear haley,

somewhere deep inside of you, you have to start loving you again. you have to remember you're beautiful.  you have to be proud of your accomplishments. and you have to remember all the times you've been told you're beautiful, you're loved, you're accepted, and you're embraced. they say kids are the most honest people - they tell you like it is.  asher continues to see your beauty and remind you of it.  sue talked about how beautiful you are before she ever even met you.  you, haley, have to remember your value and your worth.  you are something amazing your dad created.  you are his legacy.

we will continue to stand beside you, cheering you on all the way, reminding you of each of these things.  my hope is that you begin to believe them again, no matter what anyone else might say.

you are loved little one.

hang in there lovie.  one day at a time.

you are beautiful, my sweet, sweet song.

lying here wishing i didn't have to fall asleep, these lyrics popped in my head.

you are beautiful my sweet, sweet song.
you are beauitful my sweet, sweet song.
you are beautiful my sweet, sweet song.
i will sing again.

you are so good to me. you heal my broken heart. you are my father in heaven.

you ride upon the clouds. you lead me to the truth. you are the spirit inside me.

you are my strong melody. you are my dancing rhythm. you are my perfect rhyme and i want to sing forever.

you poured out your blood. you died upon the cross. you are my jesus who loves me.

sweet home alabama.

i haven't watched the movie sweet home alabama since before travis and i got engaged. while i was at the office today waiting for some things to print, i got on youtube and came across this clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8_c7da9wuA. i had goosebumps watching the beach scene {not surprising since this is the scene travis proposed to}. just thought i would share and maybe bring a smile to your face, too.

29 april 2009: jason mraz!

for the past two weeks my sister has been trying to win jason mraz tickets from various radio stations. i was unaware of her efforts until a couple of days ago when my mom told me that sierra has been dying to win them as a surprise for me. i thought it only fitting that i surprise sierra with the ticket that i had purchased for her a few months ago. i bought a hallmark card that plays music (unfortunately none exist with jason's melodic voice) so i bought her one with a dancing hamster (inside joke) and slipped the ticket inside. i left it on her bed with her backpack. i could hear her open the card from my downstairs room. she waited a few moments to react. i asked her about this later and she said it was because she wanted to scream. wednesday we headed to the apartment after she got out of school (and after several wardrobe changes). i had to do a last minute walk-through at the aparment to make sure that the carpets were clean once they dried. we also had to load up a few final boxes from the garage. we scarfed down a dinner of yummy chick-fil-a (sierra's second time ever to have it! this i cannot understand). we headed to the spirit bank center and waited for amelia. i was like a junior high school girl, giddy with anticipation. amelia arrived a few minutes before the concert began and we all hurried inside to our seats.
jason, surprisingly enough, was the first person out on stage. he came out to introduce anya marina. we weren't aware that she would be performing, and it was a pleasant surprise. she has an unusual voice and i like the lyrics to her music. it was funny that she would be performing with him, as i had recently stumbled across her within the past two weeks. she played a set of five songs or so, ending with her own version of t.i.'s whatever you like. surprisingly enough, it was great! of course we were laughing, too, but it was really great.

next the plain white t's took the stage. i got into their music in the fall of 2007, and was excited to see them live. they do a great live performance (no one compares to jason, but great nonetheless).

the highlight of the evening was of course mr. mraz himself. i'm embarrassed of effect this man has on me. he is just too, too adorable, and i am seriously like a love-struck teen when he takes the stage. i get giddy and can't stop smiling. you would think i was 12. i love that he never does a song the same way twice, that his voice is so incredibly clear, and the talent he has is amazing. he did an extended version of the opera section in mr. curiosity and it was phen-o-men-al! i can't believe that i have let three years pass since i last saw him! after seeing him live, sierra now understands the facination amelia and i have for him.

[i will try to post pics soon. all pictures were taking with sierra's camera and her memory card doesn't fit in my laptop].

orange peel 2008

this weekend i made the trek to stillwater for orange peel. it was the first time i had really seen amelia since she moved back. i got to see her cute new house and then we headed to gallagher.
we didn't get there for the start of the show since amelia and i both had to work. when we arrived at the arena, kelly pickler was just finishing her set and then motion city soundtrack came out. both artists did a great job, but everyone was anxiously awaiting sugarland. this was by far the best orange peel. other years there were a couple of good artists, but the show always had places were it would drag. that was not the case this year.
i don't think i have yet come down from the excitement we had at the concert. sugarland puts on a great show. jennifer is adorable! and she and kristian have so much chemistry. the entire crowd was very into the show, and you can tell that the band has a great time and really cares about their fans. amelia and i have already said that we will definitely have to make it to another of their shows.
on saturday, travis and i spent most of the day together running errands around tulsa and just driving around. we both did not want to spend another day couped up in the apartment. we eventually found our way to muskogee where we picked up my breakfast table and chairs. we originally had not planned to use a table in our apartment since it's much smaller than our last one; we were just going to use the bar. we both have grown weary of just sitting on the couch, though, and we were looking at the space we have and felt like we could accomodate a small table.
we went by the lears where we spent most of our time with amanda. everyone was at the house. dee was cooking and steve was waiting to go to work that evening. we had fun catching up with amanda. usually we see her for a moment or two before she's out the door or we're headed back to tulsa.
we waited around town a bit longer waiting for justin to get off work. we met him and lindsay at red lobster for dinner. everyone has been a little upset that we haven't had much time together lately. we had fun and dinner was good, but everyone at the restaurant, especially our waiter, all seemed to be having a bad night. we also had to hurry because justin and lindsay had told everyone to meet to ride. travis stayed in town to ride with them, and i went back to the house to visit with my mom. i stuck around for a few hours, and she and i both vented. i wish now that we had spent our time together in a more pleasant manner since our time together is so limited, but i think it's good that we both had someone to talk to. travis got home late last night (but really only about an hour after i did). he carried the table and chairs up and i helped get them into the house. neither of us slept very well tonight. we fell asleep talking and i think it left a lot on both of our minds.
today travis has to work all day long. i slept in a little after he left since i didn't sleep much last night. now i'm doing little chores around the house to make sure everything is ready for the new week. my plan is to come up with several proofs of justin and lindsay's save the date cards so that we can get those sent out, hopefully by next weekend.
