today travis and i started a seven day detox. laura {our trainer} did hers last week {i think}, and encouraged us to do one as well. travis thought it sounded like a good idea so we placed our order.
the cleanse consists of 7 of these packets, one for each day. inside the packet is a brownish liquid that you mix with 32-ounces of liquid.
i was really nervous to try it because other people laura trains said it's pretty disgusting. travis tried his first and told me it was nasty. so then i was really nervous.
i took my first sip, and surprisingly enough it wasn't that bad. whew. it kind of tasted like water and brown sugar - just not sweet ... if that makes any sense at all.
it was easy to get the first 8 ounces down ... the other 24 didn't go down so easily. travis finished all of his before we left the house, but i had to take a nalgene bottle with us to sip on throughout the day.
i finally finished it around 2:00 {and we started it at about 11:00 or so}.
not going to lie ... i'm not looking forward to the next 6 days. hopefully i will end up feeling rejuvenated. right now, i just feel hungry all the time {even though we're still eating}.
wish us luck!

i love saturdays.
today was such a good day. it was an incredibly long day, but a good one nonetheless.
we started out with a workout at kettlebells with laura. it was travis's first time back in a few weeks. i almost backed out, but we made it in time for class. it was intense. i came the closest i have ever come to blacking out. it was toward the end of class, and i was spent. my back was pulling weird, so i stopped to ask laura if i was doing something wrong. as she was explaining the technique to me, i could no longer hear her. i immediately sat down on the ground, closed my eyes, and focused on breathing. slowly, sound started coming back. she and travis got me some water, but my hands were shaking pretty badly and i really didn't feel like drinking. my ears still felt weird, but i was able to get up and around. class was pretty much over at that point, so travis had me walk around outside in the cool air for a bit.
we've been looking at land {have i mentioned we hate our HOA}, and there were three different listings travis had found. the first one was pretty close to where we were in broken arrow. the idea is for us to get closer to bartlesville, but the price of the land was such a good deal, we considered purchasing it anyway ... until we drove by it. it was at the back of a little bit older, run down neighborhood, and while most of it was wooded, it had been trashed out pretty badly. it also had huge electrical line towers running through it. it just wasn't pretty.
next up was a piece of land in collinsville with about 12 acres. our ideal location would be owasso/collinsville because it would cut our commute in half, get us out of town, but keep us in a location convenient to the amenities a local town offers. it would also keep us close to tulsa and give us easy access to highways back to our families.
unfortunately the 12 acres in collinsville were also not pretty. it was a very narrow lot and was sandwiched between two dilapidated properties.
our last stop was the land in sperry my aunt and uncle texted me about a week and a half ago. travis had driven by it on his way home from work over the christmas break while i was out of the office, and he thought it was really pretty. he pulled it up on google earth to show me that night, and i fell in love with it, too. it was gorgeous! ... but we suspect it's much larger than 19 acres so we have to find out where it actually divides.
after that, we headed back into tulsa. we recently got a new television and we need a new entertainment center to hold it. travis is also getting some speakers from his buddy chris, so we really need something that will house all of it.
we were still in our workout clothes, and may have gotten a few strange looks as we browsed through mathis brothers and rooms today. nothing turned up, so we headed back home to shop online. travis really wants a corner console because of how our living room is set up. this one from ballard design is one of my favorites ... but a little more than we would like to spend if we can help it. i don't want to buy a lot of furniture tailored to our current home if we're planning to move sooner than later.

last workout of the year.
i did it. i went back to kettlebell360. laura held a special class for the last day of 2013. travis was at work, but i still made myself go.
it was just me and two other girls, and the workout laura had created was definitely a challenge. it wasn't until i was in round three of my workout that i realized she wanted us to go 15 rounds. 15 rounds!!!!!! i think i must have sounded nuts when i asked her if i was reading it correctly. she let me drop to 10 rounds ... and then my ab work out. wowza.
i do like going, though. it's tough, but it feels good to be doing it. and laura pushes me, but without being overbearing and mean.
kate called me while i was in the middle of training. when i stopped for a water break, i sent her a quick message.

kettlebell training.
at the beginning of the month, travis and i went to see laura for my intro to kettlebells class. he's been training with her for over a year -- first at the hub on main street in BA, and then as she started her own business.
today was my first official class. we were both supposed to work out, but when we got there, travis wasn't feeling well and decided to send me in to face the music alone.
i'm not going to lie ... it wasn't easy. but i did enjoy it. and i'm making an effort to make sure we get to class with her on a regular basis. travis was doing really well for months on end, but lately has had to work later at the office, which puts us back in tulsa too late. help hold me to this! i don't want to lose anymore weight, but i want to tone up and get in shape. {oh ... and did i mention that i'm not strong enough to pull the slide back on my new christmas present? ridiculous}.
now we have lots to do to get ready for parker's big birthday bash! we'll be heading to muskogee soon to celebrate our favorite little guy.

another workout in the books.
did i mention that i worked out earlier this year? i can't remember exactly when it was, but a week and a half to two weeks ago.
travis signed us up for a membership and i went with him. can i just say, i.thought.i.would.die. die i tell you! it took me almost twenty minutes to run a mile!! ridiculous! in high school we had to run a little more than a mile in under ten minutes or run it again. ridicamous.
tonight i did much better. i was afraid i would fail dismally because i remembered my earbuds, but forgot my ipod. there was nothing on the tvs, but i was able to tune into the local radio stations on my eliptical and worked out to the likes of rihanna and britney -- two artists i really like very little, but who had very peppy beats for running.
today i went two miles in twenty minutes!!! {okay twenty-two minutes, but that is waaaaay better than my one mile in close to the same time last time}. hopefully i will keep this momentum {does two times to the gym in a two week period really counts as momentum?} but you get my drift.
help me stay motivated girls!!! i need to drop these lbs in a bad way. i can't keep buying new clothes!

sweatin' to the oldies.
i am in serious need of an effective weight-loss program. any ideas? i wish i had someone closer who could work out at the same time as i do {will} and could hold me accountable for actually showing up. if you have any spectacular programs that have worked for you, let me know. i'd love to hear 'em.
for now, i may start a diet of green tea and bran cereal. {just kidding!}

fitness update.
so ... we haven't done such a great job since we committed to working out ... but then travis goes and impresses me by running 5 miles in under an hour last night while i was practicing with the guys. he ran from his parents' house all the way to the pool hall! for those of you not from muskogee, that probably doesn't mean much, but as i said, it was 5 miles!! just out of the blue!
tonight we worked out together at the house doing the "arnold workout," as travis likes to call it. he's been reading another of arnold's books {this one i believe is his autobiography}. in it he shows different exercises one can do in one's living room. things like push ups, squats, different versions of sit-ups ... all things that you've probably seen before.
it was a little pathetic because i couldn't even do one push-up! {you have to start in the down position and raise up with out moving your back any}. i couldn't do it, even on my knees, which is really sad {and pathetic} for me because i usually do "guy" push-ups when i'm working out. travis did a great job of pushing me. we had to do 5 sets of each of the things that we did and focus on form more than reps. my legs were literally shaking by the time we were finished, but man! it felt good!
we were headed to run when my parents called us and asked if we could go release justin and lindsay from the pool hall. kerry {of kerry & murray -- family friends} had called earlier in the day to say that her mom had just had an aneurysm and was expected to pass at any moment. kerry and my dad grew up together, and for her to all meant that she really needed my parents there. it was very unexpected and my heart goes out to kerry and her family. at times like this i am very grateful for my mom, and also saddened by the thought that my time with her is limited.
we ended up being at the pool hall for a little over an hour, but it was after 10:30 when we got home tonight. we decided to forego running, but i am going to really try to get us to both go tomorrow after work.
we're planning a camping trip at the lake for this weekend, just the two of us. i'm really excited as i've never been camping before. we both have the day off on friday so i'm not sure if we'll head out there during the day or wait until later in the evening. i'll let you know how it goes.

thursday: we're doing really bad.
we didn't run again today. travis is having a hard time feeling motivated because he's been a little down lately. we talked about it tonight though and determined that even on days when we don't run, we will do our exercises (push ups, sit ups, curls, etc) at the house. we also want to get better about stretching each day. tomorrow is friday night, but i really want us to make an effort to run!

wednesday: 0 for 2.
since tuesday was our rest day, we should have hit it hard on wednesday ... but travis had a not-so-great day at work and was feeling a little down about the way things are going right now ... so instead of working out and releasing endorphins (which make you happy) we sat at the house bored, wondering what to do. we did watch the first movie of the godfather (an all time favorite of travis's) and then we sat around just talking with one another. i will give travis brownie points, because while we were talking and playing ball with the pup, he was doing push ups, sit ups, leg lifts, etc. did i join in on the fun? oh no, who would have thrown connor's ball?
sheesh. i (we) have got to get better at this!

tuesday: wohn wohn woohhnn.
did we run? oh no we didn't. did we work out? oh no we didn't. i was dressed and ready to go so that when travis got home from the pool hall we could head to the track. when he found out we were going to harry potter at 12:01am, however, travis decided that he couldn't work out and go to a late night meeting, and then be okay for work the next day. we decided that tuesday would be our rest day.

back in shape.

when travis and i met, we both did a pretty good job of keeping ourselves in shape. he was built like a superhero, and i was running, taking ballet, and working out for another hour each day. those days seem to be long gone as we've both gotten out of the habit of exercising regularly. we've been talking about it for a while, and got on an "eating better" kick after reading arnold schwartzeneggar's encylopedia of body building and watching a documentary on his life ... but we didn't get much further than that. last night travis asked me to bring him his shirt for league, as well as running shorts and shoes. when leagues wrapped up last night, we waited for it to get dark, then we headed to the fort gibson high school track. we were surprised to see how many people were out there running. we stretched out and headed onto the track. since we hadn't really done much in a while, we decided to take it easy. i had to get control of my breathing and we didn't want to do more harm than good. (i understand that you, reader, may not find this next part interesting, but i'm writing to hold us accountable and to track our progress). we ran a lap and then we walked, then we ran another lap, and again we walked (4 laps total). while we walked one of our laps, i did different curls (without weights). at the end of the fourth lap, we stopped to stretch out. we ran one more lap and walked a lap, and then we were finished. we made it to the top of the hill where our car was parked (i think travis thought he was going to have to carry me). we did one more quick stretch out, and then we headed home. it was hot outside, but not so stifling that it was unbearable. we are supposed to go again tonight and then wednesday will be our rest day this week. it feels good to be working out, and i really do hope that we stick with it.
