travis's {actual} birthday.

oh, we're not done yet.  you thought a camping party would be birthday enough for travis?  heck no!  we had to do his birthday on the 23rd, but i wanted his actual day to be special too, so krystal, mike, and i surprised him with dinner and cupcakes at go west in sapulpa. 

none of us had ever been before, but it had come well-recommended and was supposed to be a great steak place.  mike and krystal came to our house and then rode over with us.  we got a little turned around (took a right when we should have taken a left), and mike was afraid we were going to be in a scene out of deliverance. it started making him ill.

and as it turns out, mike wasn't carsick or ill over deliverance -- he was actually coming down with the flu!  half way through the meal he had to go outside.  krystal let us know today that he's actually very sick.  crazy how things just sneak up on us like that. -- happy birthday, travis!  i can't wait to celebrate many, many more with you!

happy 27th birthday, travis!

travis has really wanted to go camping but everyone has been so busy lately, that we haven't been able to plan time away.  for his birthday, i decided to bring camping to him -- even if it didn't include, mountains, a lake or a tent.

i didn't want anything too fancy, so i pulled out the mason jars, tied some hemp twine around them, and called it done.  

i got the most fantastic cake from seana -- who else would i go to?? she's fantastic and super duper reasonable on her prices. 

 

in case the bonfire got out of control, nick and kate brought travis a fire extinguisher ... of vodka! it didn't take him long to open that gift.

we got delicious, yummy steak from the meat market and justin did the honors of grilling so travis wouldn't have to.

parker couldn't wait to celebrate with his uncle travis and spent a lot of the evening close to him. 

i snapped more pictures of the cake before we sang happy birthday and blew out candles.  can you believe the level of detail? there are even grill marks on the hot dog!

i searched, and searched, and searched for a table cloth that would work for this fun, boy party.  i finally found a set of twin flannel sheets that were on clearance at walmart that ended up working perfectly.  kate and i searched high and low for decorations for this party.  after all our trouble, i can't believe i failed to get more pictures of everything.  these pictures certainly aren't the greatest, as i remembered to snap them at the end of the night.  i'm such a mess sometimes.

family and friends from near and far came to celebrate travis, and i'm so happy they did.  he's a lucky guy to have so many people who care about him.  happy birthday, babe.  i love you.

kate's 28!

the birthday festivities continued last night with a fun girls' night in to celebrate kate's birthday.  (i told you we were just getting warmed up with all the birthdays heading our way).

it was a fun evening in with kate, jen evins, roxie mclearan, and michelle hackett.  jen and michelle could only stay for an hour or so.  in that time we had lots of yummy food and great wine.

we devoured the blueberries and bri, and made a great dent on the salmon pizza from wolfgang puck's restaurant. 

 

 

after michelle and jen left, the evening really turned silly.  roxie, kate, and i sat around the living room telling stories, and acting goofy.  
 

side note, aren't these chairs wonderful?   kate and nick recently added them to their living room and they make me swoon.  i love them.   

the evening ended with roxie and kate comparing war wounds on their hands.
